music critic

and

explorer of the countercultures

Since the mid-1970’s he is also one of the most active and respected promoters of the planetary circuit of mail art. He has written or edited various books on aspects of the “networking cultures” that anticipated Internet, among which is the mail art guide Arte Postale- Guida al network della corrispondenza creativa (AAA Edizioni, Bertiolo, 1997). In the past three decades he has organized many exhibitions, events, publications and collective projects in the fields of mail art, audio art, visual poetry, underground comics and street art, including 100 issues of Arte Postale! mail art magazine. He was the originator of seminal networking projects such as the TRAX modular system (1981-1987), the multiple names Lieutenant Murnau and Luther Blissett, the Stickerman project and F.U.N. (Funtastic United Nations, since 2001).

Vittore Baroni è nato il 17 Gennaio 1956 a Forte dei Marmi (Lu).

Si è laureato in lingue e letterature straniere moderne presso l'Università di Pisa, con tesi sulle tecniche di scrittura di William S. Burroughs.

Critico musicale e indagatore delle controculture, è uno dei più attivi e stimati frequentatori del circuito della mail art, all'interno del quale ha curato innumerevoli mostre, progetti collettivi e pubblicazioni. Espone collage, libri d'artista e poesie visive dalla fine dei '70.

Nel periodo 1980-1984 ha registrato cassette e dischi "plagiaristi" come Lieutenant Murnau, nel periodo '81-'87 insieme a Piermario Ciani fonda e dirige l'etichetta multimediale Trax (che produce riviste, cassette, magliette, spettacoli).

Dal 1991 fa parte del gruppo Le Forbici di Manitù con cui ha pubblicato finora sette CD per svariate etichette internazionali.

Ha collaborato a numerose riviste e fanzine internazionali e curato volumi su musiche radicali, mail art, copy art e sull'arte psichedelica dei '60.

La sua partecipazione nei primissimi anni '80 alla rivista Rockerilla (e sulla rivista Rumore poi) ne fa uno degli esponenti di spicco sulla conoscenza e la critica della new wave proprio nella sua avanzata storica.

Poetica:

Baroni ha iniziato nei primi anni ’70, ad interessarsi di musica rock e controcultura, collaborando con piccole riviste alternative.

Nel 1977 ha scoperto l’esistenza della Mail art

(un approccio nuovo, aperto, radicale e molto in linea con le filosofie della controcultura).

Julien Blaine

Julien Blaine est né en 1942, à Rognac, au bord de l’Étang de Berre, flaque de mer jadis bleuazur, aujourd’hui marron glacé. Il vit à Ventabren et à Marseille et nomadise le plus possible.

Jürgen O. Olbrich

(Allemagne)

1955 in Bielefeld, lebt in Kassel

Schon 1973 arbeitete der Medienkünstler an Copy-Art Serien und Copy-Art Büchern, die er ab 1975 um Copy-Art Performances und Editionen erweiterte. 1976 erschien Jürgen O. Olbrichs Zeitschrift Collective Copy. Als Olbrich 1981 unterwegs nach Polen einen zweistündigen Abstecher nach Dresden wagte, begegnete ihm Birger Jesch während eines illegalen Künstlertreffens in einer Privatwohnung. 1987 nahm er an der documenta 8 in Kassel teil und wurde überregional bekannt. 1989 begann er mit seinem Werkzyklus Paper-Police. Er sammelt für diese künstlerischen Arbeiten Altpapier aus Kasseler Papiercontainern. Von 1995 bis 1996 wurde Olbrich zum Gastprofessor an die Universität Kassel berufen. Seit 2001 ist er Mitglied im Vorstand des Kasseler Kunstvereins.

Er arbeitet künstlerisch anProjekten, Performances, Installationen und Archiven, die durch die Vervielfältigung seiner Arbeiten beständig in Erinnerung bleiben und so dem Vergessen entgegenwirken. Der Networker, Spurensicherer und Konzeptartistist in seinem Tun bezieht Kollaborationspartner global ein. Der Künstler arbeitet mit Fundmaterialien, Methoden des Zufalls und Wort-Bild-Kombinationen, um ablaufende Zeit zu dokumentieren. Zudem ist er als Kurator tätig.

Media artist Günther Ruch's work ranges from mail-art, to film, to installation, to sound and visual poetry. His graphic work has been exhibited and collected around the world, and his films have been shown at a variety of festivals and on European television. From 1983 to 1988 he edited the international mailart- & assembling-magazine "clinch", with participations of some 400 international artists around the globe. Since 1973 he has been editor of Out Press.

Working in a variety of media, from sculpture to works on paper, Ward Tietz has exhibited and performed his poetic works in festivals, art centers and museums in the United Sates and Europe since the late 1980s. His current works include Hg-The Liquid, which is forthcoming from 1913 Press and the word sculpture installation la chasse-cueillette, which opens in February at the Villa Bernasconi Museum in Geneva, Switzerland.
